What is Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD)?

Recognized by the World Health Organization, Internet Gaming Disorder is a condition characterized by impaired control over gaming habits, prioritizing gaming over other life activities, and continuation despite negative consequences.

Victims may experience mood changes, withdrawal, social isolation, and severe emotional distress. Many minors with IGD report gaming for 6–12 hours daily, often engaging in microtransactions and missing school or sleep.

Roblox
Call of Duty
Minecraft
League of Legends

These games have been identified as intentionally designed to foster compulsive playing behavior through reward loops, loot boxes, social competition, and manipulative interface designs.

Common signs of IGD include:

- Withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety or depression when not playing
- Neglect of school, social, or family responsibilities
- Continued gaming despite knowing its negative effects
- Sleep deprivation and poor hygiene
